Engineered for long-term service life
When it comes to mooring lines, true quality is proven through long-term durability and performance under demanding marine conditions. The NIKA-Siri S12 Covered Ropes by Katradis S.A. are engineered using high-quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, ensuring exceptional strength and reliability throughout their service life.
At Katradis, we continuously test and validate the performance of our mooring solutions. After an impressive 10 years of continuous service on board the Nissos Christiana, operated by Kyklades Maritime Corporation, the NIKA-Siri S12 Covered Ropes were evaluated for their residual strength in accordance with OCIMF’s MEG4 (Mooring Equipment Guidelines, 4th Edition) confirming their outstanding durability and consistent performance even after a decade of active use.
(Mooring Equipment Guidelines 4th edition)
The latest OCIMF MEG4 guidelines place strong emphasis on the effective management of mooring lines throughout their entire service life. As part of the Line Management Plan (LMP), residual strength testing of used ropes helps vessel operators adopt a performance- and condition-based strategy for mooring line replacement. This proactive approach promotes safer mooring operations, extends the service life of ropes where appropriate, and significantly reduces the risk of line failure during critical ship-shore interface operations. At Katradis, our advanced in-house testing and evaluation facilities support shipowners in meeting these safety and performance standards with confidence.
At Katradis S.A., we operate fully equipped in-house laboratory facilities dedicated to the testing and evaluation of mooring ropes’ residual strength. Following the procedures outlined in the OCIMF MEG4 (Mooring Equipment Guidelines, 4th Edition), a used rope sample is mounted on a tensile testing bench and stretched until breaking point.
Throughout the test, the breaking force and all related parameters are automatically recorded and analyzed via a precision control system, ensuring accurate and repeatable results. This process verifies the long-term integrity and performance of the rope after extended service, reinforcing our commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous quality assurance in marine mooring operations.
‘’After more than 10 years of operations with the NIKA-Siri ropes on-board Nissos Christiana and across some of the most demanding ports worldwide, I can confidently say that the performance of these mooring ropes developed by KATRADIS have exceeded all expectations. These lines have proven their durability and constant use without compromising safety or integrity. Even after more than 9,000 hours of service, the ropes maintained exceptional strength and performance in mooring operations. We are confident using the NIKA-Siri ropes in our existing fleet and the newbuilding vessels to come.‘’
