The network of Green Award incentive providers has gained new members. Two companies of Katradis Group have demonstrated their support to the best practices in shipping by joining the Green Award scheme. Discounts on onboard mooring equipment are now available to ships holding the Green Award certificate.

Green Award brings together ship managers, owners, ports, and maritime service providers committed to reducing their environmental footprint and implementing the highest standards of safety and quality. Ship managers – certificate holders – have their offices and ships inspected in accordance with the Green Award requirements that go beyond the statutory industry regulations. If they meet the requirements, they are awarded a Green Award certificate and are entitled to various benefits provided by ports and maritime service providers.

Support of incentive providers is crucial for ship managers to keep their ships up and running with high-quality standards. Katradis Marine Ropes Industry S.A. and Katradis VEP S.A., both members of the Katradis Group, contribute to a better future for our planet and the ocean by supporting Green Award ships committed to the best practices. All Green Award-certified vessels are now entitled to a 3-5% discount on their selected products including mooring ropes, anchor chains, wire ropes, ship-to-ship fenders, and a number of other products.

At a festive ceremony that took place on the 4th of April in Athens, Green Award Chairman Captain Mattheou and Executive Director Jan Fransen welcomed the new members of the Green Award family. Mr. Katradis has accepted a Green Award plaque on behalf of Katradis Marine Ropes Industry S.A. and Katradis VEP S.A.

“We are honored to have these Katradis companies as Green Award incentive providers,” said Dimitrios Mattheou, Green Award’s chairman. “In difficult times when the shipping industry has been hit hard by the global economic crisis, keeping up high-quality standards becomes extremely difficult. Industry stakeholders have to take responsibility and help each other. Green Award provides a perfect platform for cooperation. Together we reduce incidents’ risks, make quality shipping affordable and remain the frontrunners”.

About Green Award

The Green Award Foundation was established in 1994. Green Award is a global, independent, non-for-profit quality assurance organization that works by certifying ship managers and vessels that go beyond the industry standards in terms of safety, quality, and environmental performance. The scheme is open for sea-going oil and chemical tankers, bulk carriers, LNG carriers, container carriers, and inland navigation barges. A program for LPG carriers is in the works.

The essential of the Green Award scheme is that it brings together high-quality ships, maritime service providers, and ports that want to improve safety, attract quality ships and reduce environmental and safety risks. In fact, Green Award acts as the platform for industry cooperation. Green Award incentive providers (ports and maritime service providers) award ships the highest safety and quality standards of which are confirmed by the Green Award certificate with various benefits such as discounts on the port dues, products, and services.

With over 60 incentive providers in North America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia currently participating in the scheme, Green Award motivates ship owners and managers to invest in the improvements onboard and ashore and serves as a reliable indicator of the ship’s highest standards and as a Corporate Social Responsibility and risk reduction tool for shipping companies and ports.
